Muscle coordination can be mimicked by electric motors – it could lead to improved robots
Researchers at the University of Bristol built a physical model using electric motors to mimic muscle coordination, showing that coordinated behaviour can emerge from simple mechanical interactions without central control. The study suggests that similar principles could simplify robotic actuators and improve robot adaptability.
Robots in Society, Business and Culture: September 2026
The article reports on the rapid growth of industrial robots, noting over five million units in operation and a 9% increase in global installations in 2025. China leads installations, while Europe sees declines. Forecasts predict 655,000 units in 2026. It highlights Toyota’s planned investment of ¥1 trillion for factory modernization and Universal Robots’ launch of Gen 7 cobots. The piece also covers a Rajasthan study using citizen-recorded footage to train robots, the UN’s progress on autonomous weapons regulation, a study on robot fairness, and ETH Zurich’s fingertip-walking robotic hand.
